Once upon a time... when I had a life...

Hello fellow bloggers!

The date is December 27 and the time is currently 9:23 AM. Our assignments were due on the 24th and I am just now getting to them. Did anyone else have an absolutely insane week? I just started my first 'real person' job as a sales representative with an insurance company and it has been crazy trying to pass Ohio's state insurance examinations. They are a lot more difficult than you would think, let me tell you. My company gives employees 2 attempts to pass it then we are let go so I've been worrying myself sick trying to study so I can pass this exam. Oiy! Then Christmas sort of came out of absolutely no where, which brought about even more mass chaos trying to start AND finish all my Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve. I swear I will never procrastinate that chore ever again... it was way too stressful doing the shopping then rushing home to wrap everything only for my amazing wrapping job to be torn to shreds literally 12 hours later. Okay... I think I'm done with this little rant. I figured blogs are supposed to inform readers about the authors everyday life so there you have it! Anyways, back to this assignment...

I have really enjoyed this class because it allows me to use resources I have never thought of before, like TWoP, which I have even used 'outside' of this class to find information on certain shows. TWoP is a great website because it is kept current with lots of insightful information from people who completely devote themselves to the world of mass media. My favorite and what I believe is the most informative part of TWoP is definitely the device on the site that allows patrons to view recaps for whatever show they want! For people like me who have a different schedule everyday and cannot commit to a TV show, it's great because I can catch up on what I missed then decide if I should take the time to watch an episode of a show I missed. The most entertaining feature on TWoP, in my opinion, are the blogs! If you cannot tell by reading my blog, I very much enjoy talking as well as conversating with other people... even online. The blogs allow for readers to learn about people in almost a story-like context, which is really cool. The blogs about movie reviews are typically pretty funny because there is a lot of witty criticism used, which is amusing to me.

Well, I must get going and continue to study for the insurance exam, which I am taking tomorrow afternoon. It's my final attempt so I have to study all day today. Hopefully you enjoyed my blog today. TTYL!:)

Schweddy Balls

Well that probably isn't the most appropriate name for a blog but I'm gunna go with it because it relates to the topic I am discussing.

Unlike most of my classmates, I think SNL is still pretty funny. Granted, it was hilarious when Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, & Will Ferrel were on it but I think it's done an okay job keeping the material entertaining for the audience.

I watched some of the SNL Thursday night but I watched all of it last night. I will say that last night's holiday episode was one of the worst I have seen in recent years. There were a few funny moments but I wasn't as impressed as I usually am. I was really bummed out that 30 Rock wasn't on because I was looking forward to watching it. Oh well. I wonder if it'll be on this Thursday even though it is Christmas Eve?? Probably not.

I thought I'd sign out with my favorite SNL skit ever. Okay... maybe not EVER but it definitely ranks highly amongst them all!!! Enjoy! :)

In case it doesn't load correctly, it's the video d**k in a box with Justin Timberlake.

Have a ZOOPER day :)

The Onion is the greatest.... EVER.

After reading the chapter from Rabin's book that was assigned to us I felt completely dull because I could not think of a great example in which pop culture has served as a foundation for great lessons I have learned throughout my life. I never worked in a Blockbuster... nor did I have a crazy obsession growing up that lead me to what I want to do today. Okay... I WAS obsessed with *//\\//sync but that is besides the point... ERRONEOUS! (Okay I love Wedding Crashers, too)

I really thought long and hard about this and I think the best example I can provide for my fans out there in the blogging world would be my love for animals and how that began. Living in Columbus I was given numerous opportunities to visit what is now the #1 zoo in the United States... the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium. My parents thought it was important for me to develop an interest at a young age and the zoo was not far from where I lived. In terms of pop culture, Jack Hannah drew me in. Jack was constantly doing something crazy with an animal on the Jay Leno or Today show and served as an excellent representative for the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium. I looked up to him quite a bit when I was younger thinking about how great it must be to go to work in a ZOO everyday and help save the lives of thousands of animals. Anyways, the zoo was a place I visited often and loved to hang out at on the weekends (no pun intended) so it is no surprise that I have had a zoo membership since I was 1 and I am now 22.

The zoo has been there for me through thick and thin (no pun intended there, either... hahaha) but really. I have had a lot of family problems throughout my life and ended up going in the wrong direction and hanging out with the wrong people. My parents immediately picked up on my troublesome behavior and decided I needed a hobby. The following summer (the summer before my 6th grade debut) I was accepted to be a ZooAide, which is a teenage volunteer. My duties included working the Wings of Flight shows, monitoring the Petting Zoo, and most importantly, giving presentations which was my favorite. The zoo helped me become the outgoing, charasmatic person I am today by giving me an opportunity to shine at something I loved, which was talking about animals.

I know its a long shot but it's the best I could come up with. Long live Jack Hannah!

The Pope Owns Long John Silvers

I LOVED this episode of 30 Rock...

I found myself laughing the entire time.
I think the show is so much like Seinfeld in so many different ways. The catty humor, sarcasm, and absolutely ridiculous situations are so funny to watch. I love the Canadian guy who said he doesn't understand sarcasm because they don't have Jews in Canada. That made me laugh out loud.

Once again though, Tracy was my favorite because he was the funniest. I thought his argument about religions being fake was funny even though I consider myself pretty religious. The show has the ability to make you laugh over things you really don't want to give in to. For instance, in my last post I made it evident that I really do not like Alec Baldwin but during this episode I was able to forget about my dislike for him and laugh at his character. I hope that I continue to watch this show after I am done with this class because it really is funny. I just need to get into it.

30 Rock... You still use your hotmail account?

Okay so I should start off by admitting I am a 30 Rock virgin.

As you may have read in previous posts, I watch so much TV it's sort of problematic but I never saw an episode of 30 Rock before this assignment. It was very... peculiar. I mean that in a nice way though because I found myself laughing several times throughout the episode. I have no shame admitting that my favorite character is Tracy Morgan. I absolutely love him in all the work he does because he is so funny. I have a whole lot of personal 'daddy issues' (hahaha) which is why I hate Alec Baldwin because I think he's a pig after listening to the voicemail he left his daughter a few years back. I truly appreciate Tina Fey's comedic relief in everything she does but I was a Sarah Palin backer (pretty much because I supported John McCain) and there's only so much I can tolerate when making fun of other people's beliefs. But I do admit some of those skits were funny.

One specific thing I wanted to point out in this posting was the fact that 30 Rock is likely one of those shows that needs to be watched more than once in order to fully understand all the hidden puns and references. That can be annoying at times but I thought it was great in this episode. I love scary movies so when she started doing the Exorcist thing, I found myself laughing out loud. I am looking forward to the next episode!

Ta ta for now,

Lacey J.

Post #2 on 12/1/09. Happy December!

Even though it is blurry, here is a picture of Parliament & Big Ben that I took when I was in London 2 years ago today! Anyone that knows me is aware of the pride I have for my British heritage even though it is small. I also chose this picture because I love the travel channel!

Sooooo I posted some information about me yesterday regarding the different TV shows I enjoy watching. Being the overly positive person I am (haha, don't laugh boyfriend) I forgot to mention some of the shows I do not like.

Shows I do not like:
The Biggest Loser
Heroes
Antique Roadshow
Friends (I HATE FRIENDS! haha)
John and Kate Plus 8 (I think it's just 'Kate' now.. wah wahhh)
Glee
American Idol

Shows I tolerate: AKA shows George (my boyfriend) enjoys that I will watch with him:
Pawn Stars
Any show on the history channel
Any show on the MLB Network
Principals Office

Some other points I would like to add off of yesterdays blog is a question regarding 24. I am a huge 24 fan even though I'm pretty sure it gives me anxiety attacks and sleepless nights every time it's on. 24 is kind of like spicy salsa... you don't want anymore of it but it's so good that you can't stop! I think the director behind 24 is an absolute genius because it is truly a show with no dull moments. I'm excited for it to start up again in January even though I know the effect it ultimately has on my health (haha)

There are a few shows I left out yesterday when I mentioned the shows I love:
Dog the Bounty Hunter
Dateline
Seinfeld
Jeopardy
Wheel of Fortune
